Renewables Ireland has established a joint venture with Kensa Engineering in 2004 for the distribution of their heat pumps throughout Northern Ireland. Kensa Engineering was established in 1997 and is the only British manufacturer of a full range of ground source heat pumps.
To date Renewables Ireland has installed some 30 heat pumps in N.I. alone. Renewables Ireland will use their experiences to ensure an unsurpassed level of service and expertise is available across the UK also.
Ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) are electrically powered systems that tap the stored energy of the greatest solar collector in existence: the earth. These systems use the earth’s relatively constant temperature to provide space heating for buildings.
Ground source heat pumps operate on the same principle as a domestic fridge. The ground temperature is around 10 deg C, the same as the inside of a fridge. The underfloor heating system runs at roughly 40 deg C, the same as the warm grille found at the back of all fridges.
